What’s up, my book peeps?
I’ve been so busy with all the stupid adult responsibilities I have, I haven’t had time to read, post on bookstagram, or post here. It’s the lamest thing ever. Growing up isn’t all unicorns and free books, guys.
Anyway, in the small amount of free time I have, I’ve been looking around for inspiration for my next blog post (that’s this one!), and while I have a list of things I could write about, writing about coffee on a day when I could really use another cup seemed like fun. A few people I follow have done the Coffee Book tag, and while I feel like one of them might have tagged me (code for: I commented my undying love for the tag and they awkwardly told me I should give it a go 😂). So, I’m sort of tagging myself. But that’s okay because I’m an independent person. 😉 And since I haven’t technically been tagged, I’ll take the suffering away from you by tagging anyone who reads this who would like to do it! It’s perfect for a rainy day post, when you need a hot beverage. And on that note, is anyone else craving autumn? Or is that just me? It’s my favorite season for a reason, and while I like summer, it always feels a little too long.

I’ve been a bit on the busy side lately, so I apologize that my posting has suffered! But I’ve been finding little bits of time to get some solid reading in, which means a couple more review to come soon. 😉
Today, my review will be a short one about the first book in The White Rabbit Chronicles series, Alice in Zombieland. Here is the Goodreads page where you can read all about it. Now, if you love Alice in Wonderland and scifi like I do, you’re probably thinking this book sounds like the bombest of the bomb. A retelling of Alice falling down a zombie hole? Heck yes! However, that’s not really what this book was about. I read in another review on Goodreads that your expectations of this book can make it or break it for you. And I think that’s pretty true. The synopsis of this book is fairly vague, so it allows your imagination to run away with the title and create a world where a new Alice falls into an undead world of zombies and mayhem. At least, mine did. What my imagination didn’t expect was a story about a new Alice who lives in a completely mundane world, until her family is killed and she begins seeing zombie “spirits” that only a few other people can. Now, it’s not that I didn’t enjoy this novel, it’s that the actual plot just didn’t line up in my mind like I thought it would. Which made the first bit of the book kind of disappointing, if I’m honest. So, if you are interested in this book, be prepared for more of an urban fantasy than a twisty scifi. But since I did enjoy this book, let’s get into the good parts!

I have another review for you guys today! I was looking at the website Netgalley the other day because used to use the website a fair bit until a few months ago. At that time I’d requested and received a couple books I ended up not finishing cause I didn’t really like them. Since I didn’t finish them, I also didn’t review them. Which if you’ve ever used Netgalley, you know is a bad thing. The whole point is to receive advanced copies of books in exchange for reviews. So, I haven’t shown my face around that website in awhile. 😉 But decided to go back, because I really likd it! I thought I’d try to make myself seem like less of a schmuck by downloading a couple “read now” books (these are books you don’t need the publisher’s approval to receive. They are there for the downloading if you have an account with Netgalley) and review those, so publishers know I’m back in the game.
Anyway, long story short, the first book I chose was Magic Bitter, Magic Sweet by Charlie N. Holmberg, the same author who write the Paper Magicians trilogy. I really want to read those books too, but that’s another topic.  This book  was listed as an adult fantasy novel, which seemed interesting, and I also love the cover. The description made this book sound whimsical and magical. Sort of a fun fairytale type of story. It’s about a woman who has no memory of her past or heritage, but can bake emotions into her pastries. She can make you feel strong, loved, happy, hopefully, and lots of other things by infusing her magic into your morning muffin. I was given an ecopy of this wonderful book by the author for an honest review. I will also be posting a YouTube video review, but I wanted to spread the word about how much I loved this book, so here is a written review too! 😊 There are some spoilers in this review, so be warned! Also, this book does contain some fairly graphic sexual scenes. They are written very tastefully, but just a warning to younger readers.
