To kick this blog off, I thought I would tell you guys a little bit about myself, a little about the types of books I like, and some extra things you may or may not want to know.

When I was just learning to read, I didn’t really like it. I thought going through the words on each page was extremely dull, and had resigned myself to hate it for the rest of my life. However, I learned later, that I was just reading the wrong types of books.
You see, I have a love of paranormal things. Not that I have a particular belief that ghosts and strange creatures exist or don’t (I”m still undecided, but can’t rule it out). I just find the concept of unexplainable events and things that go bump in the night fascinating. I don’t know if this interest stems from my birthday stigma (I was born on Halloween), the fact that my mom and I watched The X-Files when I was 6 years-old, or if I have crazy, vivid dreams to blame. Whatever the reason, I discovered that books about paranormal and fantasy experiences sparked my love of reading. So, I’m thankful for it.

These days, I don’t limit myself to reading paranormal fiction, but it is what I gravitate toward. I never really read non-fiction (I know, never say never), so you won’t see any reviews on biographies or self-improvement books. I read to get away, to enter another person’s life, and live experiences I wouldn’t get otherwise. Maybe that is why I enjoy reading paranormal/fantasy/dystopian novels.

Some of my favorite books are The Mortal Instrument’s series by Cassandra Clare, the Significance series by Shelly Crane, The Hobbit by J. R. R. Tolkien, The Infernal Devices by Cassandra Clare, the Creepy Hallow series by Rachel Morgan, The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins, Providence by Jamie McGuire, the Legend series by Marie Lu, the Lux series by Jennifer L. Armentrout, The Iron Fey series by Julie Kagawa, the Premonition series by Amy A. Bartol, Weather Warden series by Rachel Caine, the Sword of Truth series by Terry Goodkind, and an old favorite is Maximum Ride by James Patterson. And okay, I’ll admit, I did kind of like Twilight back in the day. But all the teenage girls did. 😉

I would completely recommend any of the books I listed above, and also all of the authors who wrote those books. I read a lot of multi-volume books, but not on purpose. I always seem to pick up the book that has been planned out in 4 sections, which I am unaware of until I read the first, and then, of course, I must know how the story ends.

I recently finished reading The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer, and it was pretty great. Depending on how the story ends, it may enter my favorites list. But the ending of a book can make or break my whole experience with the story. So, we’ll see.
Anyway, I hope you enjoyed reading a little about me and my favorite books! If anyone has any recommendations, even if they are completely opposite of what I listed, I’d love to hear them! I try to be an open-minded reader and human.
